Hotel Rwanda Essay

The director of the film hotel Rwanda uses a large variety of different techniques to add to the affect of the film. I’m going to be looking at filters and how the director uses them to portray a certain affect in the film, which is to take away unwanted attention from a certain object or thing for a certain amount of time.

An example of when the director has used filters is in the river road scene is when, they are driving along a road and there is fog everywhere. They cannot see anything as the fog obscures the immediate surroundings, and it is only partly revealed when Paul falls out of the car and sees as the fog begins to clear devastation begins to reveal itself.

The director also uses music to add to the affect of different scenarios, for example if there’s action and Adrenalin in a scene the music will be fast and loud, but if its a tense or scary scene the music would be slow and quiet. An example of this is when Paul and Gregoire are on the river road and Paul falls out of the car the music all of a sudden stops and then when the dead bodies are revealed it plays a slow and sad song to display Paul’s emotion in the situation. Music really adds to the effect of the scene because it makes the scene more intense and that’s one of the ways you could make a film more engaging.

Another cinematographic technique that the director uses is camera angles. Camera angles really add to the tension of the film because he you uses several different angles. Different camera angles are used so that you can feel like your in the film and you feel all the emotion and the get the feel of it. Also you can see how the actors view it, so from the actors POV you can see what its like in that situation. We may not realise it but the camera is always changing angle so it can get the best out of the film. An example is when Paul has realised where he is and has seen all the dead bodies and stands up and the camera changes angle and films over the shoulder so when you see it, it feels like you are the actor seeing the devastation.

The director uses focus in Paul’s epiphany scene. Focus is used quite a lot in this scene mostly because the director wants the true horror of what is on the river road disguised while it is focusing on another subject. For example in the river road scene when Paul has fallen out of the car and is now stood up, the camera focuses on all the dead bodies ahead of Paul and blurs Paul out in the shot, even though you can see him he isn’t the main object you see because there’s a certain object for the camera to be focused on.

One of the most imperative effects is camera movement. Mostly because you can not shoot everything from only one perspective. We may not notice it but the camera moves and switches around 30 times in one scene this adds to the way you see the scene and makes it look more realistic and makes you feel like your actually in the scene. The camera moves to all different angles and points so that it can get the best out of the shot. An example of an effective camera movement is when Paul falls out of the car onto the floor the camera stays focused on the car door where Paul fell out of and then moved down to the floor once we had captured the moment of Paul falling out of the car, so falling out of the shot made it more effective.

Convection badge

^ ^ this is a diagram of convection where the fluid cools by loosing heat from the surface
<<<<<<

Liquids and gases are fluids. The particles in these fluids can move from place to place. Convection occurs when particles with a lot of heat energy in a liquid or gas move and take the place of particles with less heat energy. Heat energy is transferred from hot places to cooler places by convection.

As space is a vacuum, there is no fluid present to carry heat from warmer to cooler locations therefore, no convection can take place.

Liquids and gases are fluids. The particles in these fluids can move from place to place. Convection occurs when particles with a lot of heat energy in a liquid or gas move and take the place of particles with less heat energy.

convection is most affective in liquids this is because the particles start vibrating witch cause the liquid to heat up and when they stop vibrating it cools down and this is called heat transfer and this also causes kinetic energy.

The liquid or gas in hot areas is less dense than the liquid or gas in cold areas, so it rises into the cold areas. The denser cold liquid or gas falls into the warm areas. In this way, convection currents that transfer heat from place to place are set up.

Conduction badge

“•••••” Particles vibrating

Conduction is when solids are heated up and the particles start vibrating and when they collide with each other they pass on kinetic energy.

Conduction doesn’t take place in a vacuum because there are no particles that vibrate also in a a vacuum theres nothing for the sound waves to move through so conduction doesn’t take place in a vacuum.

Conduction doesn’t take place in solids, liquids and gases. However, the more densely packed atoms or molecules of a solid can conduct more heat because there are many more collisions taking place.

Conduction is most effective in solids because the particles are more compact so they can vibrate and collide.

Particle movement is when the particles are vibrating and when they are moving faster the item is hotter and when they are moving slowly the item isn’t as hot.

Animal Farm

  1. Mr Jones – The Tsar of Russia
  2. Mrs Jones – The Tsar’s Wife
  3. Napoleon – Joseph Stalin
  1. Snowball – Leon Trotsky – Leon Trotsky wanted to spread the word about the revolution this was just like the character snowball in the book. During the first days of the RSFSR and the Soviet Union he served first as People commissar for foregn affairs and then later on became the founder and commander of the Red Army.
  2. Old Major – Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin –  Jones is an allegory for Tsar Nicholas 2. Jones is overthrown by the animals of his farm, who represent Bolshevic and liberal revolutionaries.

Jamaica little boy/teenager

Entering Jamaica on the plane and instantly you can feel the scorching heat hit you and your face starts drip with sweat. The plane lands and everyone starts clapping for the pilot but you are still amazed at how different it looks to your usual town (London). You can see that the trees are different you see millions of palm trees and all the people are black you’ve never seem so many black people in one place it all seems like your moving in slow motion, it seems like everyone even animals are just looking at you like you are the centre of attention but you still feel like your invincible and your so excited.

You get of the plane you then feel the intense heat hit you with full power and you continue to sweat even more. As excited as you are you have to go through baggage checks and all the rest but when you finally exit the airport you feel free. There you are waiting to be picked up and taken to your grandma’s house. On the way you gaze out the window and look at all these abnormal views you’ve never seen before excited to explore and find out all about it. You finally pull up to your grandma’s house and see all the family waiting to greet you on the veranda. You quickly run to meet all your new cousins and your grandma and granddad for the first time because they’ve been living in Jamaica for so long even before you were born. You finally settle down and you feel nice, relaxed and safe. Your cooked up the best meal of you life curry goat, fried chicken, macaroni, coleslaw and rice and peas with a big glass of D&G.

You’ve survived the first night but your were so excited you barley had sleep but you wake up still feeling refreshed. In the morning you go and say good morning to everyone and then a wif of food strikes your nostrils and you race to the kitchen to see what’s cooking it’s something you’ve never seen before your left with confusion wondering weather it was actually food. You ask one if your aunty’s what’s for breakfast she says akee & saltfish it’s Jamaica’s national dish. I finally get the chance to eat it and it is one of the best things I’ve ever tasted, it was delicious.

We begin to pack our bags again, thinking you were leaving forever and never going back your head drops but then your mum tells you that your going to a hotel for a couple of weeks and you’ll then go back to say goodbye to your grandma and granddad. suddenly your head is held high with tones of excitement and you put your bags in the car and take of for the hotel. “wake up, wake up” is the sound of your brother screaming in your ear after you fell asleep on the journey. you look up and see the biggest hotel you’ve ever seen and the only hotel you’ve ever seen. your struck with excitement. you walk into the hotel, straight into the lobby and its one of the most amazing sightings ever, there’s water falls; arcade games and plenty of refreshments. I realise that there’s a big bowcany ahead of me I quickly go and run over to it and everything was clear that this was one of the best experiences ever. there were 7 swimming pools 3 jacuzzi s and there was as bridge over one swimming pool leading inside wear the buffet was.

sitting there in the lobby waiting for the longest queue ever nearly about to fall asleep, your mum tells you that your all ready and you make your way tom your room.

how Shakespeare uses the idea of fate in his play

In Shakespeare plays he uses many powerful techniques when he writes, mostly including things like co-incidence, dramatic irony, pathetic fallacy and most importantly fate. Fate is when your future is already decided and you cant change it because god is controlling you life which is already planned out, this is why Shakespeare used the quote “some consequence yet hanging in the stars” because Romeo was referring to god as if he was controlling his life and he says he’s in the stars because that is where god was seen to have been in the stars where heaven was. Another example of fate is when Romeo is out on the street and a peasant comes to ask him if he can read the names that were on the invitation for the capulet party, Romeo sees his name on the invitation and Rosaline which was his first love. Romeo knew that he was going to a party were there would be members of the capulet family which were his rivals. Romeo told benvolio and mercutio and then he had a vision that this was the day that lead him to his death but he still went because it was thought that if that was fate it couldn’t be changed because it was already set. the third example of fate I’m referring to is “he that has steerage of my course direct my sail” im referring to this one because Romeo is saying that he is the boat and god is the sail and he wants god to direct him in the right direction
